ROCKY DESIGNS
YES chef
YES chef is a cookbook tool for people who are new to technology. Users that aren’t technology savvy need a tool that helps them learn how to cook through following guided recipes. YES chefs’ primary target users include young adults and adults who are concerned with learning to navigate technology while cooking.

My Role
The Goal
Challenge
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery
Design a cookbook app that is easy to use for users who are new to technology.
The strategy team at YES chef has identified that users need an easy to follow cookbook tool for those who are new to technology.
Target Audience
User Research Summary
I used YES chef’s data on new technology users to develop interview questions, which were then used to conduct user interviews. Most interview participants had minimal to no experience with technology but wanted a cooking tool that was easy to use. The feedback received through research made it very clear that users would be open to and willing to work on improving their technology skills through accessibility to easy-to-use tool to help them cook.
YES chefs’ primary target users include young adults and adults who are concerned with learning to navigate technology while cooking.
Directions
Pain Points
Cooking app designs don’t provide simplified directions with images for new cooks.
Experience
For people who don't have technology experience, users need simplified technology usage.
Navigation
Cooking app designs often have too many options, which results in confusing navigation
Competitive Audit
An audit of a few competitor’s products provided direction on gaps & opportunities to address with the YES chef app.

Ideation
Digital Wireframe
I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on easy navigation and simple directions for users with little to no experience with technology.
After ideating and drafting some paper wireframes, I created initial designs for the YES chef app. These designs focused on easy navigation and breaking recipes down into a variety of checklists, by levels of experience, and most importantly easy navigation.

Low-fidelity Prototype
Hi-fidelity Prototype
To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of experiencing a recipe with step by step navigation, easy for all users to follow including ones that are new to technology.
The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including changes made after the usability study.

Responsive Designs
Designs for screen size variation included mobile, tablet, and desktop. I optimized the designs to fit specific user needs of each device and screen size.

2
Add more recipes for users to expand their cooking skills
3
Provide incentives and rewards for completing a certain amount of recipes
